Great USB 3.0 card! February 27, 2010 Ken Hill (Alameda, California) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Pros: Best price if your looking for a USB 3.0 controller, plus you get Sata 6! Works fine with a Asus P5E3 Deluxe Wi-Fi motherboard, installed without problems in about 5 minutes. Haven't tried any sata ports yet but for what I bought for it works great! A big plus on any of the other USB 3.0 add in boards you have to add a power connector to the board, plus they are more expensive! I'm using the bottom pci-e 16x slot on my motherboard, very simple...Thank You Asus
Cons: NONE
Great USB 3.0 solution, with tests compared to USB 2.0 June 24, 2010 N. S. ALSINAN 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I built my PC I was between two choices, either get a Gigabyte which included USB 3.0 and SATA 6 (however was not fond of it duo to bad past experience) or get the Asus Rampage II Extreme which did not have these features.
I was really happy to see this product get released later in the year. The card will use a PCI-E at 4X so theoretically should be as fast as onboard ports (Asus claim), don't have a source for onboard ports to compare against. Sorry,,, will leave it to the pros to run their test on sites or magazines.
But what I have is definite results, using my WD MyBook 3.0 (which is SB 3.0) compared to a WD MyBook Elite (USB 2.0) I was able to run a Norton back up of 300GB with encryption in far less time on USB 3. It took around a couple of hours, where the USB drive took more I can remember,,, LOL sorry it didn't cross my mind that I would remotely need these times.
However I copied two folders each of 1.37GB (two files in the folder, and folder was copied one folder at a time ) and another one file of 650MB to each drive presented results that speak for themselves.
The 1.37GB to the USB 3.0 drive took no more than 22 sec to complete
On the USB 2.0 it took 1 minute 20 seconds
As for the 650MB file it took 8 seconds on the USB 3.0
And 25 seconds on the USB 2.0
I am running cards in crossfire and will be happy to know that it did not affect the interface as both port 1 and 2 are still running at 16x
No SATA 6 installed as of yet, but will update this review if I install a drive on one of the two ports on the card.
PLEASE NOTE, should be compatible with other motherboards but can't say for sure 100%. Some sites and tests on the net are run on other manufacturers motherboards, Asus has a list of compatible boards. It should be a straight forward card installation with drivers as long as you have a PCI-e port 4x 8x 16x.
A definite recommend.
Does exactly what it's suppose to do July 11, 2010 C. vang You can't beat this card for the price. Worked great! But make sure you have at least a 2x PCI-e slot. I tried the usb 3.0 and the Sata ports, very fast...But, Unfortunately for me, I only had a 16x slot left- while it worked great in it, my HDMI does not work with this card plugged in. This is NOT the fault of the card, but my board. I have a gateway sx2800.
U3S6 July 19, 2010 B. Lantto (Annandale, MN) Works as advertised on a motherboard not in compatibility list. USB very fast compared to 2.0 and sata quick as well, will be much faster in 4x slot I'm sure as I have it in 1x slot.
Excellent Performance AND Value August 10, 2010 The MoonMoth (Southern California) Purchased for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports. Excellent performance and the price of the board at Amazon is less than the price of comparable USB-only boards. So you get the 6GB/s SATA ports (with cables) thrown in for free!
Note that you must use a minimum of an PCIe X4 slot for the board to perform as advertised. I have mine in an X16 slot because that is all that is available on this machine.
Don't wait to upgrade. With this you get essentially the performance of eSATA that is also hot-pluggable.
